 Haven't had much modeling time lately, but here's a couple shots from a game of Chain of Command I got in earlier this week.

A friend's FAI armored car, modeled as a German-captured scout car. I believe this is a 1/48 kit by Ace.
Some of my shamefully unpainted Germans near the river terrain I made recently.
Some almost-painted Germans taking cover behind a ramshackle barn.
I was playing Soviets, but I didn't bother to get any photos of them for some reason. Most of my platoon died, but still successfully broke German morale and drove them off.

After an extended sojourn in the grim darkness of the far future, I got back to basics by finally painting up my PaK 36 model. I haven't painted any WWII figures since a couple of Soviet casualty figures in late December, and haven't featured any new figures on the blog in almost a year . This is the exceptional plastic model from Rubicon, spruced up with a crew made from Warlord's plastic Germans. I didn't much care for the Rubicon crew, I don't think they match the style of the rest of my Germans very well. It took me forever to get around to painting this model, partially because the very specific spare ammo canisters went missing in my bits box for several months after I finished kitbashing the figures. The PaK 36 is greatly maligned among history buffs and wargamers, considered weak to the point of ineffectiveness against French and Soviet tanks. Chain of Command in Stalingrad - Game 1

Last Friday, I snuck out to my local game store to get in two games of Too Fat Lardies’ WWII platoon combat game Chain of Command , my favorite for WWII wargaming. I had recently finished my 3-story Soviet apartment building, and we wanted to do a Stalingrad game. My urban terrain isn’t quite up to snuff yet, so we made do with some terrain from the store mixed in with our own. I think we did just fine. I trust you’ll forgive the occasional out-of-place terrain piece or unpainted miniature. Remember, I’m trusting you. -- September 1942, Stalingrad, USSR Serzhant Volkov lifted his head slowly, peering over a crumbling wall toward the low-slung grey factory building, its blackened smoke stacks spearing the broken skyline. “I can see them moving around in there,” he said quietly, to no one in particular. Bolt Action Battle Report - France 1940

Last weekend, I headed to the local game store intending to try out What a Cowboy , the recently released Old West shootout ruleset written by John Savage and published through Too Fat Lardies, makers of Chain of Command and Sharp Practice. There will be more on that front soon, but that plan fell through. Fortunately, an old wargaming friend of mine, Curtis, was in town. He's a pretty avid Bolt Action player but isn't as big on Chain of Command, while I feel pretty much the opposite way. We decided to roll off, and Bolt Action won.
