Virtual Lard 6: The Valiant Defenders of Bury

Image
After several busy weeks and much procrastination, I present the second game of my VL6 day, The Valiant Defenders of Bury. This game, hosted by Jeremy (the mastermind behind the affront to god and science known as Virtual Lard), was set during a hypothetical German invasion of the British Isles in July 1942. In this scenario, the Home Guard and civilian forces of the town of Bury will fight for their home against a formidable German fallschirmjager platoon. I commanded the Home Guard, with two Senior Leaders, three squads of guard, and numerous tricks up my sleeve. My opponent, John, had four squads of FJs with two LMGs per squad, and a scattering of support weapons. Outgunned, the defenders of Bury would have to rely on all sorts of nasty tricks to grind down the German numbers and morale. Due to the virtual nature of the game, decent pictures were relatively hard to get. Jeremy was a wonderful host, but technology has its limits. As with my other VL6 report, I plan to offer and overv

Chain of Command in Russia, 1941

I thought I'd share a few photos from a game I had about a week ago. No full battle report, just some highlights. Having recently entrapped another person into this money pit of a hobby, we played a game set during Operation Barbarossa in 1941. This was a probe scenario, with the Germans trying to punch through Soviet lines near a small farming village. A view from the German table edge. We played at the local game store and used their mat, but all the other terrain is mine. I didn't want to go too hard on my opponent, since this is only his second or third game of CoC, but I did want to get my T-26 on the table, since I don't think I've gotten to use the model since I painted it up. With that in mind, I did heavily imply that a tank or an AT weapon would be a good choice for him. However, he ended up bringing a halftrack and a Panzer I. The little Panzer never hit the table, which is good, because I don't have a model of one anyway. He brought his halftrack on quic

Virtual Lard 6: The Battle of Hughie's Wee Garage

This past weekend A month ago (yikes!), I was lucky enough to join not one but two games of Chain of Command during Virtual Lard 6. Interestingly, both of them involved the proposed German invasion of the British Isles - one during Fall Grün, the invasion of Ireland, and Unternehmen Seelöwe, the invasion of England. This battle report will cover the first game, pitting the Irish Army against German motorized troops. I was playing Germans alongside Brendan, and we had a 3-squad rifle platoon with two Senior Leaders, a light mortar team, a tripod MG-34, and two armored cars: a 221 and a 222. I had nominal control over the armored cars and the support teams, but as we shared 5 command dice, we had to work together. The game host, Karl, provided all of the models, the lovely table, and also created the scenario. Karl also provided me some of his photos of the game, which are much nicer than the screenshots I was able to get through Zoom. As this game was played virtually and it was harder
